For three decades Pavlos Nerantzis has been earning his living bringing the pain of Others to the public eye. Today, in his mid 50s, he has decided to take the risk to expose himself further by selecting images from his missions around the world. Toiling in the fields of writing, radio and television journalism, he uses both his photographic and video camera as an extension to his pencil, as a tool to serve militant journalism. His images flirt with the great tradition of the humanistic school of documentary photography, without any intent to imitate: they are rather a record of an alert eye, which outweighs any clumsy aesthetics, claiming at the same time an economy of the emotion and avoiding the clichés of a “militant” image making or the stereotypes of a leftwing didacticism. Traces of War, pebbles in the desert of the Real we cross, cannot be looked but read.


Εδώ και τρεις δεκαετίες ο Παύλος Νεράντζης βιοορίζεται και πολιτεύεται δημοσιολογώντας τον πόνο των Άλλων. Σήμερα, στα πενηνταφεύγα του, αποφάσισε να εκτεθεί περαιτέρω, κορφολογώντας εικόνες από τις ανά τον κόσμο δημοσιογραφικές του αποστολές. Επαγγελματίας γραφιάς, ραδιοφωνιτζής και τηλεδημοσιογράφος, χρησιμοποιεί την κάμερα, φωτογραφική ή τηλεοπτική, ως προέκταση της γραφίδας του, ως εργαλείο της μαχόμενης δημοσιογραφίας που υπηρετεί. Οι εικόνες του φλερτάρουν με τη μεγάλη παράδοση της ανθρωπιστικής σχολής της φωτογραφίας-ντοκουμέντο, χωρίς την πρόθεση να μιμηθούν: αποτελούν μάλλον τεκμήριο μιας εγρήγορης ματιάς, που υπερακοντίζει την όποια «αδέξια» αισθητική, διεκδικώντας μια οικονομία του συναισθήματος και αποφεύγοντας τα κλισέ μιας «στρατευμένης» εικονοποιίας, τα στερεότυπα ενός «αριστερού» διδακτισμού. Τα Ίχνη Πολέμου, ψηφίδες από την έρημο του πραγματικού που διασχίζουμε, δεν βλέπονται, διαβάζονται.

Pavlos Nerancis, otuz yıldır, özel ve toplumsal yaşamını, "karşıdakilerin" sancısını söz ve yazılarıyla bize iletmekle geçirmektedir. Ellili yaşlarını sürdürdüğü bügünlerde, çeşitli ülkelerdeki gazeteci görevlerinden topladığı görüntüleri sergileyip, kendisini daha göz önüne sermeye karar vermiş. Profesyonel yazar, radyo ve televizyon muhabiri Nerancis, fotoğraf veya TV kamerasını kaleminin uzantısı, yıllarca hizmet ettiği gazeteciliğin aracı olarak kullanıyor. Bize sunduğu görüntüler, humanizm ekolünün döküman-fotoğraf geleneğine dayandıkları halde taklitten uzak kalır. Uyanık bir bakışın işaretleri olarak, amatör estetiği geriye bırakır, "militan görüntüleme" ve "eğitici solculuk" kliselerinden sakınarak duygusal içeriklerini öne sürerler. Pavlos Nerancis'in Savaş İzleri, topluca geçtiğimiz yaşam çölünün dağılmış parçaları olarak bakılmalı, daha doğrusu okunmalıdır.
